Evolution
Stars: David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, Orlando Jones, Sean William Scott.
A meteorite lands in the small town of Glen Canyon, Arizona. Two professors from the local community college, Ira (Duchovny) and Harry (Jones) go to investigate and find a blue liquid seeping from the crashed piece of rock. Upon closer examination Ira discovers single-celled organisms which are rapidly increasing in number. Within hours the cells become multi-celled organisms, much to the shock of the two professors, who dream of the Nobel Prize.
When the military and government intervene and take over the crash site, Ira and Harry are devastated that their discovery has been stolen. And accident prone government scientest Allison (Moore) finds that there are more to these extra-terrestials, when people in the town start being attacked by larger than life alien beings.
With the help of would-be firefighter Wayne (Scott) it is up to these people to fight the aliens and stop the spread of a gigantic worm-like alien that will wipe off America within months.
This movie has a wonderful concept and I found it to be light and entertaining without being stupid. Being in the genre’s of Sci-fi and Comedy, it is not to difficult to let the imagination go and watch the amazing mixture of alien creatures created for this film. All the actors seemed to enjoy making this film, as it was interesting and not short of some hilarious moments, especially the rectal alien removal from Harry’s butt.
My wife is a big fan of David Duchovny, so of course she was enjoying it. It is interesting to note that much of his lines seem to be poking fun of his character, Mulder from the X-files. There is no exceptional acting here, just good fun and that is really the strength of the movie, purely for entertainment only.
