Sliding Doors

Stars: Gwyneth Paltrow, John Hannah, John Lynch, Jeanne Tripplehorn

Helen (Paltrow), arriving late for work one day, is sacked. She is returning home when her life splits in two and the audience preview her life in these two different realities.

In one reality she catches her train, meets the charming James (Hannah), and comes home to find her boyfriend Gerry (Lynch) in bed with his ex-girlfriend Lydia (Tripplehorn).

In the other reality she misses her train, gets mugged trying to catch a cab, ends up in hospital and arrives homes, when Lydia has already left and Gerry is in the shower.

The two realities ride in tandem, in which Helen enjoys blissful happiness with James and creates her own PR company. And the other is her struggling to work two jobs while Gerry carries on his affair with Lydia.

Extremely clever writing and acting. This is really a fantastic movie. Paltrow, was great as the sad/happy Helen. And although in writing the story might seem confusing it is actually quite well done, in the sense that we are able to see both realities moving along until the quirky but inevitable ending.

THE EXTRAS

There are no extras which is a real shame for such a clever movie.

CONCLUSION

Wonderfully fun movie, even if it is considered a chick flick…
