Little Nicky
Adam Sandler, Patricia Arquette, Rhys Ifans, Harvey Keitel, Tiny Lister
Little Nicky (Sandler) is young adolescent with a speech impediment. His father, Satan (Keitel) wants to retire and would like to hand Hades to one of his 3 children, but he doesn’t know which of his children is more deserving of the title, so he postpones his retirement. Nicky’s 2 evil brothers (Ifans and Lester) are angry that neither one of them became ruler, so as an act of rebellion they ascend to earth to create havoc. Now it is up to Nicky to get them back to Hades and answer to their slowly disintegrating father.
For an Adam Sandler film, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has plenty of comedy and was not as silly Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore. Harvey Keitel was fantastic as Satan, he has such brilliant comic timing, you would thing he was a natural comedic actor rather than a dramatic one. Many of the jokes and puns were directed to Sandler’s earlier work as there are several cameo’s from actors such as Jon Lovitz, reprising his sleazy character from The Wedding Singer. It has a great story and some of the visual effects are fantastic, especially as there was not a huge budget.
THE EXTRAS
Audio Commentary- Adam Sandler, Steven Brill & Tim Herlihy. Very informative commentary, they share many stories relating to various scenes and obviously there is a fair amount enjoyment in talking about the film. They also discuss other cast members, how it was like to work with the them and how various scenes were shot.
Featurette: Adam Sandler Goes To Hell (30 mins)- Mainly behind the scenes footage, great moments, quick interviews with cast and crew, it is quite humourous.
Featurette: Satan’s Top Forty (18 mins)- A documentary about the history of heavy metal music. Interviews with musicians about the stigma attached to the people who write, perform and listen to this type of music.
Deleted Scenes (17 mins)- There are 21 deleted scenes, some of these are hilarious and it really is a pity they were left out of the movie.
Cast & Crew Filmographies
Music Video- POD: School Of Hard Knocks
Theatrical Trailers- 2 X Theatrical Trailer and 2 X Teaser Trailers, pretty good trailers, but don’t really do the film any justice.
CONCLUSION
Quite a good film for an Adam Sandler one… Obviously a must for any Adam Sandler Fans…
