A small worker ant called Z (Allen), has a very humble life but yearns for so much more. When he accidently meets Princess Bala (Stone), Z convinces his friend Weaver (Stallone), an army ant, to switch places with him so that he can look for Insectopia, a land where all the insects are free. He inadvertently brings Princess Bala with him on a wild adventure, in which they are able to confront General Mandible (Hackman), who wants to wipe out the entire colony. Z just may become the hero and have the adventure, he has always longed for.
