Rock Star
STARS : MARK WAHLBERG, JENNIFER ANNISTON, JASON FLEMYNG & TIMOTHY SPALL.
Rock Star is loosely based on the true story of heavy metal band Judas Priest who replaced their lead vocalist Rob Halford with Tim “Ripper” Owens who was at the time a singer in a Judas Priest tribute band .
Chris Cole (Wahlberg) is the singer in a Steel Dragon tribute band with the real band being one of the hottest rock acts in the world. By day Cole is a photocopy repairman but he lives and breathes Steel Dragon. So much so in fact he is fired from the tribute band for taking the gig just a little too seriously and blurring reality with fantasy.
But when the lead singer of Steel Dragon is fired, Chris is asked to audition as the replacement and, suprise suprise, wins the chance to live out his dream. He adopts a new name “Izzy” and is quickly introduced to the world of sex, drugs and rock & roll.
Chris however soon realises that maybe fame isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be and finds himself needing to make some choices about his future and exactly what he is prepared to give up in ORDER to achieve his dreams.
One thing that you have to do upon completion of the film is to ensure that you watch the end credits which have an hilarious sequence of outtakes.
THE EXTRAS
* Audio Commentary : The film’s director Stephen Herek talks about the project that consumed his life for several years and it shows that he obviously really enjoyed doing so. He advises that most people apart from the main actors are actually musicians which adds to the believeability that the film manages to exude for it’s 100 minutes running time.
* Documentary - 4 Mins : Usual collection of film clips, behind the scenes footage and interviews with cast & crew. For the record, anything 4 minutes long does not deserve to be called a documentary, a featurette maybe but not a documentary.
* Theatrical Trailer
* Cast and Crew : Brief text pages on the main cast and crew.
* Music Video : Everclear : Rock Star
CONCLUSION
Pretty good storyline even if a little on the predictable side. Excellent vision and audio makes this DVD a worthy purchase.
