Jeepers Creepers
STARS : GINA PHILIPS, JUSTIN LONG, JONATHAN BRECK, PATRICIA BELCHER
‘Jeepers Creepers, where’d you get those peepers.’ This is the unlikely basis for this horror movie where you are what you eat!
Darry (Justin Long) and Tricia (Gina Philips) are a brother and sister who are on their way home from college to spend some time with the family. The drive takes them though some backwater towns.
On the way home they are terrorised by a truck who tries to run them off the road and then takes off, leaving them in his dust. As they continue their drive home they find the owner of the truck at an abandoned church dumping what looks like a body wrapped in a sheet down a pipe. They take off only to have the truck track them down again.
After escaping, Darry convinces Tricia of the need to go back and investigate what is going on, thereby securing him in the horror film hall of shame. I wont go into what is discovered but suffice to say it isn’t good.
This film offers very little in the way of originality except for the ludicrous references to the song ‘Jeepers Creepers’, and even less genuinely scary moments. Like most horror films these days the temptation to refer to other horror movies could not be resisted. Directors and screenwriters must think it adds credibility when you let the audience know they know it is a derivative of your basic horror film. It worked wonders for ‘Scream’, now it has been overused to the point where it is just annoying.
The performances are fine however they are…derivative! Note, watch Darry as he spends half the film trying to make his eyes pop out of his sockets, you kind of hope he succeeds!

Theatrical Trailer: That’s it.
CONCLUSION
A horror film like so many others. Jeepers Creepers fails to frighten, using gore as opposed to suspense to create the terror. This is the sort of film which is good for a bit of a laugh and some very mild scares.
