Beautiful Joe
STARS : BILLY CONNOLLY, SHARON STONE, GIL BELLOWS, STEPHEN METCALFE & IAN HOLM
Joe (Connolly) is your average guy who finds his life completely turned upside down within the course of the course of a single day.
First he finds out that the cause of the headaches he’s been HAVING is a brain tumor, then on going home he finds his wife in bed with another man and finally she asks Joe for a divorce because “he’s Boring”. Talk about a crappy day.
Joe then heads to the racetrack where he meets Hush (Stone) a stripper with a bad gambling habit who is also in debt to the tune of $8,000 to the local crime boss George (Holm).
After Hush steals from him to pay the crime boss, Joe approaches the crime boss and gets his money back due to a case of mistaken identity (they believe that he is a gangster known as Beautiful Joe).
Joe decides to help Hush and so the unlikely couple then head off to Las Vegas with the aim to win enough money to get Hush out of debt and for Joe to have an adventure in the process.
The premise of the movie is quite good but I believe the cast hasn’t been selected well. Sharon and Billy in particular don’t seem to have any chemistry at all and the film suffers as a result. I remember Billy saying that Sharon barely spoke to him whilst on set which could EXPLAIN the lack of any fireworks between the two leads.

CONCLUSION
The film’s story is interesting and even plausible which makes the film enjoyable is somewhat uncomfortable due to the lead’s seeming dislike for each other.
