Roman Holiday

Starring: Audrey Hepburn, Gregory Peck, Eddie Albert

Producer and Director: William Wyler

Plot Synopsis: This was Audrey Hepburn’s first Hollywood film, which also won her an Academy Award. Her introduction to the world as Princess Anne, was truly an introduction to one of Hollywood’s greatest stars. Made in 1953 this story is set in Rome and is about a young princess who wishes to escape for a few days from all the duties her life entails. She runs away and unaware that her companions are a journalist and photographer out for the `scoop’ story, she lets loose and enjoys her few days of freedom doing things she’d previously only dreamed about. This is pure escapism and romantic comedy. Just the thing to relax with on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Black and White

Sound is Mono

Extras: There are three short featurettes, “remembering Roman Holiday”, “restoring Roman Holiday”‘ and “Edith Head - The Paramount Years”. I found the featurette on Edith Head the most fascinating, despite it HAVING little to mention about Roman Holiday.

There are also three trailers and photo galleries from the production, the movie, publicity and the premiere.

Final Comment: This film will remain a timeless classic, full of charm, wit and romance.
