Cousins
Starring: Ted Danson, Isabella Rossellini, Sean Young, Lloyd Bridges, William L Peterson and Norma Aleandro.
Director: Joel Schumacher
Story: This remake of the French film “Cousin, Cousine”, is romantic comedy at its best. One finds it strange to think a film based around an adulterous relationship could be a truly gentle romance, but this is what this film is.
Larry and Maria are thrown together because of the affair their respective spouses are having. Ironically whilst the affair of their spouses is tawdry and lacks any chance of fulfilment, Larry and Maria develop a true friendship that blossoms into love. As their romance grows, life continues around them, with their families experience love, death, marriages and birth.
This is a captivating film that for some reason did not garner critical acclaim. The film is well worth watching by anyone who believes that life often takes strange twists along the path of romance.
Extras: Other than the interactive menu, none.
Final Comment: I’ve always loved this film, so of course I am going to say, buy it. It is simply one of those films for sitting down on a wet afternoon and escaping into the romance.
