The Nugget
The Nugget is a great light Aussie comedy with an all star Aussie cast. Filmed in the little New South Wales town of Mudgee, it’s based around three going-nowhere-fast best mates. They all work together at the local council doing road works and are satisfied with their slow paced lives. The leader, Lotto (played by Eric Bana of Fast Forward, Chopper and Black Hawk Down fame) is a down to earth sort of a bloke who can’t seem to get much good luck to go his way. He has what he needs, a house, a car and a faithful, grounded wife (played by Belinda Emmett from Home and Away).
His mate Wookie (played by Stephen Curry (The Castle)) is a conspiracy theorist who can’t get through a day without getting paranoid about something. He is content with his supermarket checkout chick wife who spends her time complaining about the day’s annoying customers. Sue (played by Dave O’Neill (Nova radio)) is the real lazy one that doesn’t let anything spoil his day. His mail ORDER bride seems happy to pursue a life with such an unloving man.
The boys spend most of their spare time at their lot of land fossicking for gold and drinking beer. One day the boy’s luck change and they turn up the biggest nugget ever found in the area. There are plenty of twists and turns as the boys try to deal with this bit of great luck and given their loser status things are bound to go wrong - and they do! They all embark on the inevitable spending spree but find that finding the nugget was the easy part as their friendships are sorely tested as gold fever takes over. It even affects their relationships with and between their wives.
With such light scripted characters our comedians do a great job acting each part and not pushing the characters too far. The casting has been well thought through with some excellent choices for each supporting role, including Peter Moon (Fast Forward) and Vince Colosimo (Wogboy and Chopper).
There are heaps of bonus extras, including interviews on set, bloopers, an alternative ending and much more so this really is entertaining value.
