The Mick Fleetwood Story
The Stars:
The title is a giveaway as Mick Fleetwood is the key man in the whole thing.
Synopsis
This is a rather in-depth documentary on the man that kept Fleetwood Mac alive. It traces almost every year of Mick’s life since his birth, taking him back to the place where he decided to be a drummer, to the place where he was discovered. The makers have interviewed many people from his past and present, including each of his two past wives and his present wife Lyn. There are some special comments from B.B. King and John Lee Hooker. Surprisingly they’ve interviewed Mick’s two daughters from his first wife, Jenny. The daughters are very touching considering they were brought up seeing their father and the other members of Fleetwood Mac living a very hard rock life. It’s hard to imagine the life they must have lived but now Mick’s sober and sane so they’ve picked up the pieces and become a happy family. The makers have also spent time out to include interviews and many memories from Mick’s Mum, Dad and two sisters.
The whole story of Fleetwood Mac is amazing. They started off as a five piece all-male band in England. All the members were exceptionally talented but it was never work for them, just all fun. The fun kept them going and allowed them to travel all over the world. When they got to Munich things changed as their then leader and guitarist, Peter Green went out with three new `friends’. For three days they allowed Peter to trip on acid and unfortunately for the other band members, he never came back down to Earth.
Mick wouldn’t let that destroy his career path and kept the band going. They moved into a communal house and one by one the band’s members changed. Christine joined and eventually they moved to America. Soon enough the band as we know it today formed. They consumed themselves in their music, each other and drinks and drugs. They’ve had many number one hits and remarkably not one member has succumbed to the death of a rock star.
Summary
Unfortunately it was recorded before they released their new hit, Peacemaker. I really was puzzled as to why Christine isn’t there but that’s what the internet is for. There are no special features to end it and I think they could’ve included more music.
Plot
As a documentary not too much in the way of plot is called for but there are some rock/blues music legends (B B King, John Lee Hooker and John Mayall for instance) who give their views on Mick and the band.
