The West Wing Series 1
2 Box Set - Episodes 1 - 22
Created by Aaron Sorkin.
Starring: Rob Lowe, Moira Kelly, Dul? Hill, Allison Janney, Richard Schiff, John Spencer, Bradley Whitford and Martin Sheen.
For lovers of “The West Wing”, this box set is a must have especially considering the television channel (who will remain nameless) airs it at such a ridiculous time slot ie: LATE on a school night! “The West Wing” is the series based on a fictitious US President (`President Josiah `Jed’ Bartlet’- Martin Sheen) and his staff who face current and quite plausible situations day after day.
The writer and creator of the series, Aaron Sorkin (Writer of “A Few Good Men”), has introduced an ensemble cast of outstanding actors, who have each made their character likeable, personable, funny and real.
Rob Lowe plays `Sam Seaborn’ who somehow manages to get himself into quite a difficult situation with a call girl. Well-known actor, John Spencer plays `Leo McGarry’ the President’s Chief of Staff who is a recovering alcoholic. Bradley Whitford plays `Josh Lyman’, who manages to get himself in trouble with the Press Corps and the President in one fell swoop and can be credited with the best one liners in the show. Dul? Hill plays `Charlie Young’, the President’s Personal Assistant, who actually applied for a very different job.
These are just some of the stories this outstanding television series brings to its viewers.
The Script writing is of a very high quality - as there are no special effects, no action sequences, the script has to entertain and the punchy, quick witted dialogue is not only entertaining, it’s funny, dramatic and quite brilliant.
The Set Designers had their work cut out for them - they had to re-create The White House as Creator Aaron Sorkin wanted it to look like the real thing. And re-created it, they did.
Of course, if you are not a US Political aficionado, the politics and Government technicalities of the SHOW might be lost, however, the outstanding script and acting of the principle cast will keep you quite entertained. Understanding the politics will only enhance the viewing.
Along with the principle cast, there are guest stars galore (the majority will all have familiar faces) such as: Stockard Channing, Timothy Busfield, Jorja Fox, Ron Silver, Marlee Matlin, John De Lancie, John Amos and the list could go on and on.
Season 1 comes in two box sets - 3 DVD’s each. The discs are stored in a flip out book cover with the US Government Seal on the front along with the obligatory Stars & Stripes. It includes a Scene Index for each of the 3 Discs (11 Episodes + Special Features) and brief summary of all the episodes. Each episode usually continues on into the next, so it’s good to have both boxes.
