Her Alibi

Phillip Blackwood (played by Tom Selleck) is a struggling writer, suffering from writers block. A chance meeting with a Nadia, girl on trial for murder, inspires Phillip and starts him writing again. Phillip is totally besotted with Nadia and wants to help her, he realises the best way to help her is to provide her with a false alibi so she can be released. Nadia is accused of killing a man with a pair of scissors and Phillip, not really certain of her innocence, hastily offered the alibi without really thinking of the consequences.

Phillip offers Nadia a place to stay, and is soon torn between; wanting to hide from her in case she really is a murderer, and falling hopelessly in love with this girl. Nadia’s actions constantly arise suspiscion with Phillip, she throws a knife inches from his head to kill a bug on a wall and offers to cut his hair with scissors, and with each incident Phillip is more confused. With all this going on Phillip is writing again and the story is flowing easily as he uses the day to day occurrences for inspiration, but Phillip soon realises that he will have to try to get the whole story from Nadia in ORDER to finish his novel and for his own peace of mind.

This is primarily a comedy and the narrative that flows throughout the movie is really quite witty. The story its self is a murder mystery and offers a good underlying story. Selleck plays a good part and is convincing as a man bumbling through romance. I found this very entertaining and perfect for a lazy Saturday afternoon or a night in on the couch.
