My Giant
Sam (played by Billy crystal) is a small time Hollywood agent, struggling to make ends meet. It’s been a long time since he had a decent star on his books (if he ever did at all), he is in the middle of a messy divorce and custody settlement. His wife has moved states to try to rebuild her life without him and Sam rarely sees his son. Sam is flat broke and when the only prospective money-earning client he has, sacks him on a movie set in Romania, Sam hits a real low point. Driving back to the airport in Romania Sam has a car accident and is rescued by Max (played by Gheorge Muresan).
Max is a Giant ( well he is over 7 foot tall and really big…) He has lived in a monastery in Romania since his parents abandoned him when he was 15. He has no real family and the only person he knows outside the monastery is friend who lives in the USA. The two become friends and Sam decides to offer Max a chance to be a big movie star. Max lives simply and knows nothing of what Sam is offering him. Max is not tempted by fame and fortune and only agrees to go with Sam when Sam offers him the opportunity to catch up with his friend in the USA.
Originally Sam is not interested in what Max wants. Some of the things Sam talks Max into doing compromise both of them and Sam constantly disappoints Max with his poor decisions. Sam soon realises that he will not always be able to talk his way around with Max and will have to change in ORDER to help Max get what he really wants and maintain his friendship with the gentle giant.
This is a warm fuzzy comedy where you laugh at the stupidest things. Billy Crystal looks so ridiculous beside Gheorge Muresan and just the visual of them together is hilarious. Billy Crystal is a master of comedic timing and the movie works well because of him. This movie is a pleasant change to the usual type of movie on offer from Hollywood these days, in that it lacks extreme violence and offensive language but still has a good story.
