Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas

This DVD has 3 stories all neatly tied in as “gifts” under a Christmas Tree. Well presented and introduced by a narrator this is a beautiful Christmas Story and would make a great Christmas gift.

The first is a story about Donald Duck and all his gang. Donald’s nephews Huey, Duey and Louey have such a great day on Christmas Day that they wish it was Christmas every day. In a plot reminiscent of Ground Hog Day the boys awake each morning to the same day. It doesn’t take long before the boys are sick of replaying Christmas and long for their lives to return to normal.

Then Goofy and his son Max are spreading the Christmas cheer in a story about Santa Clause. Poor little Max is told by Big Pete next door that Santee is not real. Goofy goes out of his way to convince Max, Goofy even dresses up as Santee, but nothing will convince Max. Just when Goofy thinks all is lost the real Santa turns up to save the day.

Mickey and Minnie star in the last story and its a beautiful story. Minnie has been working hard to get a Christmas bonus so she can buy Mickey a case for his harmonica, and Mickey has been saving to buy Minnie a chain for her watch. When Minnie’s Christmas bonus turns out to be a fruit cake and not money, Minnie trades her watch for the case. Mickey’s saving plan has not gone well and he does not have enough to buy Minnie’s gift so he trades his harmonica for a chain for Minnie. On Christmas morning, they both realise its not the gift that’s important but the act of giving.

I just love Disney cartoons they are quick entertaining and bright. My kids sat glued to the screen enjoying every minute. This is a great gift for a child, it has 3 stories so all the favourite characters make and appearance. My only comment was it was a bit short at just over an hour, but still you can’t have everything - Can you?

THE EXTRAS

Story book Mickey & Minnie’s Gift of the Magi- This was probably a little bit old for the intended audience its really just a virtual book lots of reading and turn the page when you are ready. It’s a lot to ask, for a child to read that much writing on a TV screen. My 8 year old is a good reader and was bored with this and did not finish “reading ” the story and my 6 year old was not able to read it all and he was easily frustrated with the “book”. So it was disappointing for it not to be narrated as this would have added real value to the story and widened the audience.

CONCLUSION

This DVD has 3 stories all neatly tied in as “gifts” under a Christmas Tree. Well presented and introduced by a narrator this is a beautiful Christmas Story and would make a great Christmas gift. Your old Disney favourites of Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy all appear.
