Plan B

Fran Maloni - played by Dianne Keaton is a widow, her husband was murdered by the mob for failing to pay his outstanding debts. The Mob boss employs Fran so she can pay off her husbands debt, and in a bizarre twist of the plot Fran finds herself promoted from an accounts clerk to a hit woman. Fran is a really “nice woman” who is meek and mild and would never hurt anyone so instead she kidnaps her first victim and hides him at her brothers house in Florida. Unfortunately because she is so “successful” her boss orders another hit and then another, this goes on and on until Fran’s brother soon finds he has a house full of Gangsters, and Fran realises that she will have to do something drastic to be able to escape the mob.

This is a tongue in cheek look at the life of a gangster and is not the slightest bit believable or credible, but it is lots of fun. It’s a great escape from reality and a fantastic 96 minutes of light entertainment. Diane Keaton has good comedic timing and plays a bumbling house wife, turned murderer really well. The plot is lightweight and the characters are very basic and stereotypical but it’s simplicity works well. I’d had a really busy week where everything seemed to be rush rush rush…….., it was a nice change to watch a DVD where there was little mental effort needed and I was able to sit back and enjoy this without any effort.
