Brainstorm
Made in 1983 this was a futuristic look at the possibility of virtual reality long before it was the concept it is today. A team of doctors are researching the transfer of personal sensations from one human to another via a special helmet that connects the two brains and performs the transfer. The doctors guard their creation heavily and are concerned when the armed forces SHOW a special interest in their project. Things go from bad to worse when the head scientist dies from a heart attack and the research team find themselves locked out of their lab and unable to access their experiments. The team set about making contact via an Internet style telephone link and try to halt the experiments before someone is seriously hurt or killed. This was Natalie Wood’s last movie made before her death and it was a little disappointing that the acting was not enough to add to the film.
Nothing happened in the first 20 minutes of this film and I guess it took so long to “set the Scene” and introduce the characters that the story got lost in the detail. The plot was too involved and I found myself feeling a bit confused during the movie and by half way through I was longing for the end. This was a suspense movie with little suspense. Maybe with the change in time and the progress made in special effects this movie is just too old to be entertaining.
