Action Jackson

I can’t remember what year this was made, but I remember watching it and thinking it wasn’t a bad movie, so I was happy to review it and take another look 15 odd years later. Action Jackson (played by Carl Weathers) is the no holds barred cop who gets results. He is dripping charm and animal magnetism and the women just can’t get enough of him. He takes on a mob boss Peter Dellaplane (played by Craig T Nelson) who is on a one-way path to political power and not afraid to murder anyone who gets in his way. When Dellaplane finds out his wife Patrice (played by a very young! Sharon Stone) has been talking to Action Jackson he murders her and attempts to frame Jackson for the murder. Jackson teams up with Dellaplanes mistress Sydney and tries to find enough evidence on Dellaplane to turn the tables on Dellaplane and clear his own name.

This is not high drama and no one would have won awards for acting performances but it’s not a bad way to spend 92 minutes if you have it to spare. It’s an “action hero” type of movie and you just know that good must triumph over evil for everything to be right with the world. The only other thing I feel I really have to comment on is the movie as a whole- it’s very 80’s and the costumes and hair are enough to have your best 80’s memories running for cover from the fashion police, but it is lots of fun at the same time. I like to have a heap of these types of movies in my collection for when friends come over and they want to see something different.

It’s a niche market but if it’s what you like you have certainly got the right DVD for it here!
