It’s Your Birthday Party With Winnie The Pooh
This is basically a party planner for toddlers. It is divided into two sections “Planning a Party” and “Party Time”. In “Planning a party” there is a games tutorial showing adults how to use this DVD to organize a party and discussing how the remote should be used. The second part has quite a few listed tips on how to plan the party (dating back as far as a month prior to the party).
The second part is divided into Stories and Games. There are two stories “The Wise have it” and “Grown, but not forgotten”. “The Wise have it” have the gang from the Hundred Acre Woods making a Birthday cake for Winnie the Pooh. Because there are so many candles on the cake they all think Pooh is very wise until he starts giving advice. This cartoon runs for ten minutes, a perfect length to keep toddlers amused.
“Grown, but not forgotten” have Pooh and his friends going to visit Christopher Robin but when they find him they don’t recognize him because he is dressed up in a suit to go to a party he doesn’t want to go to. He tries to get out of the party by pretending he is sick. After receiving etiquette and dancing lessons from his friends he goes to the party with lots of confidence. The gang fear that Christopher Robin is becoming an adult and he won’t want to play with them any more. They were mistaken of course. A little on the long side in my opinion (over twenty minutes).
In the Games section there are eight interactive party games. Here is a brief description of each of them.
POOH’S SCAVENGER HUNT - Tigger hides Winnie’s stuff and you have to find them using the remote. The idea is to pass the remote from child to child and they take turns trying to find the bits and pieces.
TIGGER SAYS - A variation of Simon Says. I’m sure every body knows how the play that.
MUSICAL CHAIRS WITH POOH - Some set up required by the adults here (Chairs need to be put in rows- one less than the number of kids present). The DVD just plays the music, stopping it at different stages while the kids are playing the game. While the music is playing there are Pooh images on the screen to distract them.
PIN THE TAIL ON EEYORE ! - Eeyore’s tail is missing and the kids have to try and put his tail back in the right spot using the remote and a spinning Tigger
BREAK THE PINATA - You have to try and help Winnie and Tigger break the pi?ata using the remote again. The pi?ata has to be low for this to work. This game continues until someone breaks it open. I’m not telling you what’s inside! You’ll have to play it yourself
FOLLOW THE TIGGER - The children spread out around the room and follow what Tigger does on the screen. A Disney version of Follow The Leader.
PIGLET’S PICTURE GAME - Piglet draws a character and the children have to guess who is it and using the remote select the character as soon as they know the answer.
WHO ARE YOU LIKE ? - This enables the kids to find out which character they are most like by answering some questions using the remote again (like for example What is your favourite sport?) A lot of these questions aren’t really relevant to toddlers but they can choose an answer anyway. I was most like Tigger. That’s one questions I will never have to ponder again.
I would have to say that I was skeptical at first but after watching the games I must say that if you are having a party for some young folk then this DVD would be ideal. Playing the games can take a good hour or so depending on the number of kids present but you will probably need an older child or an adult to supervise. You can’t put a price on that amount of peace and quiet (well peace anyway). The games are easy to play and the enter and arrow buttons are the only ones you will need to use.
The two cartoons were a tad boring but the main aim of this DVD is to entertain children during a birthday party and I think it serves that purpose brilliantly. If you are having a party soon and have to entertain the kids yourself this could well be about $25 well spent. I might use it when my two year old critic turns three. This DVD is probably aimed at kids five years and under mostly.
THE EXTRAS
There are none really other than a form of scene selection.
CONCLUSION
This is basically a DVD of two parts. It helps you plan a Birthday Party and on the big day it helps you amuse all those toddlers attending and running riot in your house.
