Finding Nemo
Well what can I say? My kids (and me too) have waited eagerly for the release of finding Nemo since seeing it at the cinema last year. I can assure you none of us were disappointed. This special 2 disc collectors edition is an absolute must have.
If you only buy one DVD this year…..
Before you even get to the discs there is a special offer for a book and limited edition stickers valued at $16.95 free with every purchase, which in itself is a great offer and you only have to pay the $2.95 postage.
Disc one contains the Movie which is Disney Pixar at its best! Nemo a little clown fish is captured by a diver and taken to Sydney to live in a fish tank. Marlin his father is scared of everything and must overcome his fears to try to find Nemo. Marlin teams up with Dory (my favourite character from the movie) a little blue fish, who suffers from short term memory loss, and together they take; on Sharks, sea
turtles, Jelly fish, a deserted mine field, a whale, and all the dangers of the deep blue ocean to rescue Nemo. Meanwhile little Nemo is fighting his own battles and learning to be independent and bravely tries everything he can think of to escape back to the ocean. Both Nemo and Marlin will need to change in order to find each other again.
A truly beautiful story with lots of action and adventure, I enjoyed this even more the second time round. The attention to detail is fabulous and there are some scenes where you will have to remind yourself that it is animated and not real. The only thing I would warn is that some of the scenes are a little scary. My 3 year old was frightened by a few scenes and sat on my knee from about 3 minutes into the start, but she also wanted to watch it again and has now watched it 4 times in two days.
THE EXTRAS
Also in disc one is a fantastic feature that allows you to turn your TV into an aquarium, its magic! Select the button to continually run underwater scenery on your TV. Really cool!
A Filmmakers commentary. This has been really well done… instead of making you sit through the movie while they blab in the background (which is how most others have done this) The Filmmakers have put together a few extra little clips of how they achieved special effects and how they made things work and included deleted scenes . They viewer has the choice of; watching all the clips in a row, or selecting one at a time, or watching the whole movie with the clips inserted at the
point in the movie they are relevant to. The deleted scenes have been put into the movie at the point where they were originally intended and this is great as the directors explain why the scene was deleted etc. It’s a new approach and was much better to watch.
It just keeps getting better!
Disc two
Is jam packed full of bonus features. The first thing is a little intro by the film makers and it explains what is on the disc and how to navigate its fun, these guys obviously love their work and enjoy working together.
The aquarium feature is on this disc as well with brand new animation.
Pixar have also included a short film called Knick Knack it was played at the start of the movie in some cinemas and is a cute little film about a snowman.
Of course a game is included, and it’s cleverly done with the school of fish from the movie they act out some shapes and you have to try to guess what they are. The only complaint I have with this one is if you get it wrong they don’t tell you the correct answer. (But that’s minor).
There is also a Featurette on the making of Nemo it’s a documentary style film and included footage of the people actually doing the animation and footage of the real life inspiration for the movie. This was fabulous and obviously they were always going to include this so it has the benefit of forward planning, whilst at times it appears orchestrated and the film makers do blow there own trumpet a little, they have every right to they have made a brilliant hit and are justly proud of the achievement.
There is a shot flick on the artists who made Nemo & how they did it. By this stage of the DVD it was a little bit “more of the same…”
Learning fun with Mr. Ray this was really cool, set up like an encyclopedia; it included facts and footage on the real life creatures from the movie.
Easy to access and child friendly this Disc is well worth the money and just adds value to the purchase. This will become a collectors edition in time to come the filmmaker’s have generously given a lots of bonus material in this set.
Short film of the studio. Filmed in a tour style to show young animator wannabees what it is really like to be an animator and work at Disney Pixar.
Storytime fun. This was a little animated storybook about Nemo and his friends going to school after the movie. It’s beautiful and has become a favourite. My kids have watched this almost as many times as they have watched the movie.
