Juwanna Man
This is a funny movie from start to finish. Jamaal Jeffries is a career basketball player at the top his field. He is wealthy and lives an extraordinary life enjoying the spoils of his fame; he drives a big car that has a giant photo of him on the front, carries a stamp of his autograph and is horrible to everyone! All of this comes to an abrupt halt one when Jamaal Jeffries gets to big for his boots; he behaves appallingly at a professional game and disgraces not only himself but also his whole team. He is thrown off; the court, the team, and the basketball circuit. His actions earn him a suspension until further notice and he is unable to continue playing with any male basketball league.
Dejected and broke he heads home to his Aunt Ruby’s house. Aunt Ruby is the only person in Jamaal’s life that can bring him down to earth and when she sends him out grocery shopping, Jamaal knows it’s time for him to do something drastic. On the way home from the shops Jamaal has a brilliant idea.. He decides to dress as a woman and try out for the WNBL. Of course the Banshee’s team instantly accepts “Juwanna” to their team. Having never played as a member of a team before Jamaal learns a few valuable lessons about basketball, and teamwork, it’s not too long before he/she is a valuable member of the team. Juwanna Mann is talented and loved by everyone on the team. She also has a big fan club.
Jamaal Jeffries’s life is sweet again, he is going to ask to be allowed rejoin his old team as a “changed man” all he has to do now is make sure no one finds out his little “secret” before he manages to make Juwanna disappear forever & get back to his real life.
This was hilarious! I laughed and laughed as Jamaal got himself into some pretty difficult situations. Jamaal has lots of attitude
and it was portrayed so well. The acting was solid and the plot was well thought out so even though it was unlikely it was still a
story you could get into and enjoy. The director had used real basketball players in this movie and had obviously spent a long time
researching the professional basketball scene; this was evident throughout the whole movie.
I don’t want to go into too much detail and spoil the laughs but I must say both the sight humour and the clever dialogue are well
worth the time spent watching this. There are some really clever and funny scenes. The picture was brilliantly clear and the sound
was great.
THE EXTRAS
Director’s commentary, this was good, the two men commentating this had a great sense of humour and obviously enjoyed making this movie. I never really get the point of watching the whole movie with people talking over the top but if you like this sort of thing they have done a good job with this one.
Deleted Scenes- as always these give a good insight into where the director was going with the movie. It really was just more of the same but fun to watch just the same.
Cast and crew - just a still of names nothing to special here!
Scene & Language selection.
