Luck of the Irish

What can I say; another hit comedy for the family from Disney DVD. ‘Luck of the Irish’ is the story of Kyle Johnson (Ryan Merriman), a high school student who literally has luck on his side. In Kyle?s world, if something depends on luck he will usually win. His school Basketball team are heading for the grand finals because of his brilliant ?lucky shots?, and he is always in the right place at the right time. Kyle had never thought about a possible connection between the gold coin here wore around his neck and his luck in life until the coin was stolen.

Without the coin Kyle realised that his life was no longer ?charmed?, but worse than that, things began to change in his family too. His mother started shrinking and grew pointy ears, and it wasn?t too long before she had to explain to Kyle that she, and all her family, are leprechauns and with out the gold coin they cannot be human. Kyle?s life was only getting worse, when he looked in the mirror and saw that his ears were getting pointy too. Kyle realised that because he was half leprechaun too he was also reliant on the coin to remain human?.. and lucky.

Kyle?s mother set about telling Kyle the truth about who he really is and Kyle became determined to steal back the family gold coin. If he can only work out who stole it. Kyle meets and teams up with his leprechaun grandfather (played by Henry Gibson) and the two of them take on the evil little leprechaun Shamus McTiernan. With the battle lines drawn Kyle must use all his leprechaun skills (some that he didn?t even know he had) to trick Shamus into returning the Coin.

This was a great story with some really good laughs. Rated G, & coming from the Disney DVD studio, I knew it would be ?safe? to watch with the whole family and best of all, it only runs for approx 80 minutes so it?s not a boring drawn out epic. I have four children aged 3 to 9 and they all loved this movie. It is typical solid Disney with a good and simple story line and even a moral at the end. The acting was great and whilst this movie didn?t have the huge amounts of special effects (things changing before your eyes aided by computer graphics), it wasn?t lacking without them. This is the type of DVD that is perfect to sit down and watch with the kids as a reward for the whole family, and is certainly one I could recommend. The Disney quality is to the usual high standard and the sound and picture clarity is brilliant.
