Bring It On Again
The ultimate cheerleading experience - “Bring It On Again” is definitely a niche market DVD, with a very select audience. But if you like teenybopper, cheerleader movies then this is the one for you. However, if “Bring It On” was not your scene, then please don?t waste your time with this one.
It?s Whittier?s first day at college and all she wants to do is try out for the cheerleading squad. She has what it takes and knows with a little help and guidance, she could be the best. She does not anticipate the hostile world of college, where people will try anything to make sure she fails.
Tina Hammersmith the head cheerleader, is a spiteful horrid person who takes the hierarchy of college very seriously. She believes that she is better than every other girl on campus and if she speaks to anyone they should feel eternally grateful. The Dean has told Tina that she is to mould Whittier in her own image. After seeing Whittier tryout for the cheerleading squad, the Dean believes that she will be the next head cheerleader.
The college has one the national championship for the last 7 years and the Dean is not about to give up the biggest money-spinner the college has ever had. The Dean is a corrupt man and has cut funding for all the minority faculties, such as dancing and drama and has redirected the money into football and cheerleading. The cheerleading squad all hate Tina but are too frightened of her to say anything. When Whittier is offered a place on the squad she thinks all her dreams have come true, but it is not too long before Tina is making her life a living hell. Tina is always telling Whittier what she can wear who she can speak to, even who she can be friends with.
Tina finally goes too far one day when she asks Whittier to be nasty to her best friend in front of the whole squad. Whittier quits the squad and decides to start her own rival squad. With all her talent it?s not too long before her rival squad is getting a name as a better squad than the varsity one. Tina challenges Whittier and her squad to a showdown ? the winner will be chosen by judges to represent the college in the regional championships. Now Whittier has to fight the ultimate David vs. Goliath fight and try to win the right to represent the school.
There is no great acting or deep twisting plot and this movie is terribly shallow, with a paper-thin script, but it makes for an entertaining 90 minutes on a rainy day and is not altogether un-watchable. I actually quite enjoyed the escape from reality and the set was really colourful with great costumes and some really great cheerleading displays. If you can maintain a low expectation and forgive the lack anything deep or meaningful in the story, then you won’t be disappointed. My sister just loves this movie ? (it?s one of her all time favourites???) mainly because it?s unashamedly shallow and has no pretence of being anything more than afternoons light entertainment. There are days when you just want to watch something that doesn?t challenge you or make you think about big issues ? it’s just pure unadulterated entertainment.
