Haunted Mansion
Mr and Mrs Jim and Sara Evers (played by Eddie Murphy and Marsha Thompson) are the dynamic duo of Real-estate. They live their lives constantly shuffling around personal engagements in order to be available when ?duty calls?. Always on the lookout for new selling opportunities, the Evers? believe they can do anything, but nothing can prepare them for the ultimate challenge in real-estate sales. The Haunted Mansion. Mr Evers and his family arrive late one evening to sign up and sell an old mansion; probably the most unsettling thing they see is the cemetery out the back, but things go from bad to worse when they realise that they are trapped in the house and the only way to escape is to break the curse. There are many strong characters in the house (most of them supernatural) and the family delve deep within themselves to find the courage to take on the challenge.
The Evers? children are timid city kids (Jim?s young son is too scared to whack a spider with a newspaper at home). They are definitely not used to being in an out of control situation, so they have to develop the ability to take anything on is one short night. There are many funny incidents and whilst this is a story that is highly unlikely, it?s just so funny that you find your self glued to the screen.
Eddie Murphy has proven once again why he is one of the giants in Hollywood; his comedic timing is brilliant and his versatility as an actor is almost legendary. Eddie Murphy has taken the character of annoying real-estate agent and made it his own. The setting in this old house is perfect and the atmosphere is electric. Each actor plays a credible role and this is a DVD that will appeal to both adults and adolescents alike.
The impossible situations that keep arising make this a fast paced, and totally enjoyable movie and the plot constantly thickens. I watched this with my son (aged 9) and he really enjoyed it. He laughed many times and was entertained right to the end, however this is probably not a movie for a child any younger. I just love how Disney is making such a wide variety of movies available to own. Our home collection is filled with Disney and I must say, there are very few movies that Disney makes that are not of a high standard.
Disney is unsurpassed in the movie business and it is usually a safe bet to buy anything Disney knowing it will be loved by the whole family. The picture quality on this DVD is brilliant! and the clarity of the sound was superb - I ran this through our home theatre system and it was second to none. If you have surround sound make sure you try it out on this DVD. With Disney offering their DVD?s at fantastic prices now is the time to add this one to your collection.
One of the best movies I have seen this year!
