The Wiggles Cold Spaghetti Western

Well the Wiggles are just hanging around at the Wiggly Ranch waiting to go to the town fair, they sing a cowboy song and get ready to go. The trouble begins when they realise they have lent their Big Red Car to Dorothy the Dinosaur, Henry the Octopus and Wags the Dog. Dorothy and her friends are helping the great Alfonso at his Great Western Cafe and the Wiggles will have to ride donkeys to town. A few songs with the donkey keepers and the Wiggles are on their way. It?s not too long before they have to leave the donkeys and walk the rest of the way. Luckily they run into Captain Feathersword who plays the drums for them does a dance and tells them the way to the fair.

When they get to Town, the Great Western Caf? is deserted. Dorothy explains it?s because Alfonso has run out of the secret ingredient for his pasta and now instead of being ?Master Pasta? Alfonso?s food is ?Disaster Pasta?! The Wiggles learn that Alfonso is entered into the big cooking competition at the fair and if he looses he may have to close the Great Western Caf?, so they decide to help. Anthony?s friend “Food Man? is called in and even though only Anthony Wiggle can see him; they take his advice and try to get some more of the secret ingredient.

A few food songs and dances later the Wiggles arrive at the fair with the secret ingredient - hopefully they will find Alfonso in time to save the day! But in the mean time Jeff enters the siesta competition, and wins. Murray enters his water finding invention in the invention competition and wins. Greg and Anthony both win competitions too.

The Wiggles sing and dance their way through 13 Wiggly songs and the brilliantly talented Wiggly dancers are there throughout the movie helping to entertain the audience. Wiggles have developed a certain style over the years that I have seen advance from their very early videos (we own one of their first Videos ever made) to these great productions like Cold Spaghetti Western. Dorothy, Wags and Henry invented whole new characters (and got a much better costumes!), and whilst the costumes and the props have become much more sophisticated the essence of the Wiggles has not changed at all. They still are the same four guys doing what they love - singing and dancing and entertaining little kids. They have a sound that is identifiable anywhere and they really are a talented group of singers and musicians. Any acclaim the Wiggles get these days is richly deserved, they have clawed their way from nowhere into the hearts of children around the world.

I watched this with my 4 kids aged 4 to 9 and they didn?t budge until the end. There is just so much colour and the dancing is so well choreographed. All the Wiggles stunts are unashamedly staged and they have a predictability about them that really appeals to the audience. The plot (if you could call it that) is so thin it?s almost invisible, but the DVD really only needs a thin storyline to tie in all the songs and introduce the characters.

The Wiggles is one of those DVD?s that you can almost guarantee will be a hit with little kids and with the terrific pricing of kids DVD?s in the ABC shops these days Wiggles DVD?s make great gifts or rewards for young kids. Even though this is a kids DVD the ABC have still put the sound into stereo and the clarity of the music is fantastic. I have surround sound and the wiggles blaring out of the sound system sounded Fab! The picture was beautifully pristine and overall this DVD was a real pleasure to watch, there is enough variety in the 13 songs that this won?t be too annoying on the 223421351st time it is played.

THE EXTRAS

These were disappointingly standard, no games or fun stuff probably not enough to make you rush out and buy the disc, but worth a look if you have a chance.

A Wiggle postcard from Asia - Filmed like a home movie, this is a quick flick of the recent trip the Wiggles and the team took to Japan and China. Seeing the Wiggles out of costume was a bit disconcerting for my 4 year old I don?t think she realised they didn?t dress like that all the time. The guys are filmed in Japan ordering food, (very little language was exchanged but lots of hand waving and nodding) and practicing for their concerts and then more of the same in China - some footage of the Great Wall of China and a preview of another DVD in the making?

Photo Gallery ? Boring stills of the Wiggles in costume ? even my kids were not interested in this! I think we would have preferred a matching game or something else.

Juke Box - With the remote control you can choose to play any of the 13 songs from the movie with the film clip. A bit ho hum, only my 4 year old was interested in choosing a song, but the text was hard to read on the screen (it looked great but was not very functional) so she couldn?t read it & I had to select the songs and stay with her to help.

Sing along with the Wiggles ? karaoke with the Wiggles - gotta love that!
