Amnesia

On the night of his fifth wedding anniversary Detective Mack Stone arrived home expecting a celebration and some romance, instead his wife confronted him. She told him she was having an affair and wanted to leave the marriage. All hell broke loose and when Mack awoke the next morning his beloved Lucia was nowhere to be found and his life was in tatters. Lucia cleaned out his joint savings account and bought a one-way ticket to France, she rang him from the station to say good-bye and that was the last Mack had seen or heard of her. Despite all his efforts Lucia has remained missing for over 3 months, and Mack is finding her disappearance haunts him every day.

Whilst investigating his wife?s disappearance, Mack stumbles across two posters; one of a Mr Paul West who went missing 10 months ago after a terrible accident claimed the life of his wife and child, and the other of ?John? who turned up at the local Hospital suffering from amnesia 8 months ago, unable to remember who he was. Mack is convinced they are the same person, and his subsequent investigation goes well beyond police harassment. John’s life is subjected to heavy scrutiny and Mack finds himself interrogating anyone in John (or Paul’s) life. Mack is so convinced he is right he publicly confronts John on several occasions.

In a twisting plot of intrigue, the lives of John, Paul and Mack are running parallel and somehow become entwined. So when Mack is arrested and charged with Lucia?s murder he is convinced that he is lost somewhere between the truth and fiction; and in the end even Mack is unsure of what is real and what?s not. By the end of this you will have enjoyed 146 minutes of pure intrigue and suspense, but be careful not to prejudge anyone in this story, they should all be “suspects”.

This is another example of the quality drama that the ABC and is famous for. Brilliant acting and a really well developed plot make this a thoroughly enjoyable drama to watch. John Hanna?s performance as Mack Stone is one of his best yet. Set in London, this two-part movie is a ?must watch? for fans of drama and suspense. My only negative comment was the lack of subtitles (I?m a big fan of them!) but this is minor. Amnesia is attractively presented in a cover with Pictures from the Movie; with both episodes contained on the one disc. The sound and picture quality were the usual fabulous level we have all come to expect from DVD and the ABC should be proud of releasing such an extraordinary product. Available from ABC shops across Australia, (and very reasonable priced); Amnesia is the type of DVD?s that you will want to add to your home collection and honestly there is no excuse for drama fans not to have this in their collection.

Rating 5 stars - Best Drama I have seen this year!
