Van Helsing
This movie was so entertaining I could’ve watched it again, straight away if I didn’t have to go to work the next day. If the movie’s graphics weren’t done so well it could almost have been a children’s film, being so comical at times.
The story starts with the introduction of Frankenstein and his monster, who are being forced out of the area by every town folk old enough to carry a pitchfork or firestick. Dracula seems to be involved somehow but why, we later find out. We are then taken to meet our heroine, Anna a year later in time. Together with her brother, they are trying to catch a werewolf in the middle of Transylvania when all goes wrong. Her brother tries to save the day, but gets killed and we are now introduced to Van Helsing. He is in Paris and is trying to save the day also(the tools and toys this man has is heaven) against Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde. Every move the monster makes, Van Helsing is prepared with a gadget.
Unfortunately the city of Paris does not understand the destruction these battles against monsters cause and has a reward on his head, but the almighty Roman church is his saviour and he heads back to report in. He is sent to help Anna and her town fight the evil that is Dracula and his clan. He is not welcomed by Dracula’s brides and all hell breaks loose. Anna is not too thankful either but allows Van Helsing and his right-hand man to stay in the town. Within twenty-four hours Anna accepts Van Helsing’s help and they start the dreaded task of tracking down Dracula and finding the right way to kill him. Of course hunting down and killing such a figure is not easy and the two are met by many interesting beings, half of which are not living.
THE EXTRAS
There were so many extras, an extra disc to be precise, that I got sucked in big time. Being female I really appreciated the female as a part lead, so enjoyed the costume talk and all that. The interviews with the Brides of Dracula were quite entertaining too. I even got sucked into the interactive lab of Frankenstein. There are a heap of interviews with practically everyone involved in the movie, a lot of history about how this movie came about, the work behind the make-up and special effects and of course the bloopers, which is always first on my extra list. I think being such an entertaining movie the extras seemed a lot more attractive.
All the extras are listed as follows.
