Cold Sweat

Bronson plays Joe Moran a man who got into trouble while in the Army and spent time in prison for beating someone up. When the chance for escape came he joined in as the getaway driver but he left the others when they killed a policeman. They did time while he went on to own a charter boat on the Riviera. But when the bad guys break out of jail Moran?s life is turned upside down.

The plot had some potential but then the script and the acting got in the way. James Mason plays Captain Ross and does it with possibly the worst fake American accent in cinema history. As leader of the bad guys he organises a scheme to make Moran help them set up a huge drug deal but it would be hard to take someone who talks like this seriously. Other bad acting helps destroy the plot as the drug deal is never consummated and the bad guys lose. Moran goes free eventually, as do his wife and step-daughter after setting fire to half of the Riviera. A poor car chase, replete with obvious blue screen action, fills in some time but that doesn?t save the film.

I noted another reviewer who said Bronson should be ashamed of himself and I would add James Mason doesn?t have anything to be proud about either. Jill Ireland apparently only got a gig because she was Bronson?s wife as I reckon my dog acts better than she does. Liv Ulmann is fairly excruciating as well, just to round things out.If you get the offer to see this movie, politely decline and go and stick your head in a wasp?s nest or something. There will be less pain that way.

THE EXTRAS

There is scene selection but why you would bother is beyond me.

CONCLUSION

Will the poor script and acting get the bad guys before Bronson does?
