Strictly Dancing

Not since ?Strictly Ballroom? the original movie responsible for bringing ballroom dancing back in from the cold in the ?80?s, has a DVD been held accountable for the popularity of this fashionable sport. ?Strictly Dancing? the TV show was the result of a partnership between of Todd Abbot and Paul Melville and became brilliantly popular when introduced to TV on a Friday night on the ABC. The concept was that dancers would compete in front of respected judges in a range of disciplines from Tango to Salsa to Hip Hop, in order to show their versatility and talent. Each week a couple would be crowned the winner and would ultimately vie to be crowned ?Australia?s Ultimate Dancing Couple?

The show ran for 12 weeks and faithful viewers were treated to many varieties of Dance. This DVD however goes further and allows the viewers to ?meet? the finalists from series one and join them on the journey to the ultimate prize. Watching this you will see the clash of personality?s all the tears, nerves, and tinsel that made this show.

Hosted by Paul McDermott, Lex Marinos and Angel Gilltrap this series showed off not only the glamorous side of competing but also the heartache of loosing and the characters that make up this unique world. The DVD runs for approx 108 minutes and is essentially dancing in all shapes sizes and disciplines, and the people behind the scenes. If you enjoyed this TV show you will love this DVD as it neatly ties up all the ?loose ends?, and you don?t have to have watched the show to enjoy the DVD as it contains plenty of footage from the show and the competition itself.

The fabulous costumes, brilliantly talented performers and vibrant personalities all blend in together to make a wonderfully entertaining DVD. If you enjoy dance of any kind then this DVD will be sure to please. Available from the ABC shop this DVD is not something I would rush out to buy today but is certainly a DVD that is worth adding to the home collection.
