On Golden Pond

Well this would have to be one of my all time favourite movies EVER!!! So when it was released onto DVD I just knew I would have to add it to my home collection. I haven?t seen this movie for over 10 years, but I still say, ?It?s me you old fool? when someone announces that there is someone at the door.

Norman Thayer Jnr (Played by Henry Fonda) is in his golden years, he lives with his wife Ethel (Played by Katharine Hepburn) and enjoys a relatively quiet life filling his days with fishing and reading the newspaper. Frustrated by his ailing health and lack of strength Norman constantly finds himself tired and cranky and hi is constantly taking his pain out on those closest to him his wife and his daughter.

Norman and his wife travel ?home? to their cabin in the woods on Golden Pond to and enjoy a relax-full holiday, they have holidayed here every winter for years they can?t wait to return to something that has remained unchanged and constant in their lives. Norman continues to carry on in his cantankerous way and Ethel ignores his behaviour as an act of love. When Ethel & Norman?s daughter Chelsea (played by Jane Fonda) writes to say she is coming home for her fathers birthday and is bringing her new boyfriend, Ethel senses their may be trouble. Norman is unforgiving of Chelsea and has high almost unattainable standards for his only child.

This is a story of strained family tension, and the intricate relationships that hold us all together. Make sure you have the tissues handy and also a few close girlfriends to watch with you and create the perfect ?On Golden Pond? atmosphere for this chick flick. The sound and picture quality is perfect and the acting is superb anyone new to this film will know why Hepburn and Fonda were such highly respected actors. This film took much acclaim in its time (and rightly so) as it?s a timeless tale of love and life and is one that no good home collection is complete without.
