Foolproof

Foolproof is the private club of Kevin (Reynolds), Samantha (Booth) and Rob (Joris Jarsky). Twenty something rich kids with a lot of time (and money it would seem) on their hands. The trio get together to devise and theoretically impliment grand scale heists all for the fun of it. One of their plans to rob diamonds are stolen and perfectly executed by a British gangster , Lou, (Suchet). Lou threatens to implicate the club in the diamond robbery if they refuse to pull off an ambitious corporate bond heist.

Foolproof misses to many marks to make this an exciting heist film. In almost every area it need to give about 50% more. At times playing out like a tele movie the bad guys never seem to have enough menace, the one liners are never funny enough and the tension is never edgy enough. Certainly watchable, where Foolproof does pay off is in it’s surprising end which does deliver some unexpected twists (but also opens a few holes on closer inspection) Ryan Reynolds doesn’t have the spunk that he shows in Blade Trinity and the rest of the performances aren’t too memorable either. Writer/Director William Phillips steals ideas from many modern heist films with out really offering anything new. He needed to provide Foolproof with more atmosphere and a stronger sense of threat to have made us feel that the trio were in serious danger.

Overall I would say throw it in amongst your weekly package, it’s the kind of film that you will watch one night after you have finished one DVD and you don’t want to go to bed yet.

THE EXTRAS

The cover lists Behind the scenes & Special effects featurettes as wel as Cast Biographies but they weren’t present on this disc. The Canadian release also has out takes and the trailer.

CONCLUSION

Kevin, Samantha & Rob are hackers with a difference. Foolproof is their private club where they theoretically design plans to pull off incredible heists. When one of their plans are stolen and executed, their games become a reality as they are forced to pull off the ultimate heist by a notorious gangster who is threatening to implicate them.
