Son of the Mask

Loki the god of mischief has returned after 10 years hidden away in his legendary mask. Tim and his wife have a ?normal? boring suburban life, having been married for several years Tim?s wife is quite keen to start a family but Tim wants to be a success in his work in the field of animation first. A Halloween party changes everything, getting dressed up for the party Tim discovers he has nothing to wear as a mask until his dog brings in an old mask that he found in the garden.

Tim turns green and cool and is the life of the party, he arrives home on top of the world and after a romp in the hay with his wife, his son is conceived. Tim?s son Avery is born with the powers of the mask and it?s not too long before Avery is wrecking havoc in Tim?s life.

Tim?s dog is horribly jealous of the child and steals the mask for himself; the masked dog and the masked child then embark on a battle to the end for Tim?s love and attention. With Tim?s wife out of town on business and the house wrecked from the dog/child battle Tim mistakenly believes life can?t get any worse! Then Loki himself turns up!

Loki?s father Oden is the great God. Oden is sick of Loki?s mask and its mischief, Oden has ordered Loki to find the mask and destroy it. Loki must find the mask and the child before Oden takes his powers from him.

So poor Tim is at home; caught in the middle of his battling psycho baby and dog, and defending himself from Loki and his mischief. Then his wife returns home, and the trouble really begins!

This DVD has some really funny moments, the plot is a fragmented and the show lacks that special zing that Jim Carey brought to the first movie, but it?s not too bad for a night in with the kids. The baby is just fantastic and has the perfect elastic face for the ?son of the mask?. It?s all a little corny and I found the characters to be a bit distant, but if you can get past that and stop thinking, then it?s a great 92 minutes of slapstick and clever animation. My kids loved this movie; they were big fans of the original mask (we bought it on DVD about a month ago) and loved seeing the power transformed to a child. I can already tell that this is a DVD that will become a much played one in our house.

The picture quality was brilliant, on wide screen aspect ratio 16:9 we saw EVERYTRHING! And we have surround sound that did justice to the Fab Dolby digital. This is DVD that is well worth owning and great to add to any home collection.

THE EXTRAS

All the usual ? making of and audio that you would expect to find on a new DVD. Nothing new or earth shattering but not a bad set of bonus features.

Audio commentary from James Kennedy (the star of the show) & Lance Khazei (the Writer) Usual boring stuff- ?what we were trying to achieve here? etc etc

Chow Bella- a 5 min flick on the pampered pooches of Hollywood! My goodness someone needs to tell them that dogs are not people! A fun reality escape.

The how we did it featurette on making babies move fast and making dogs jump high, for the budding animator this is pretty interesting stuff.

Some home movie style footage from the set- all the pranks etc

Theatrical trailer- a quick flick on what to expect from the movie.
