Our hero Jackie plays the part of a cop whose last job ended in plenty of cost to the Hong Kong Police Department but a successful outcome. He is admonished for the expense and sent back to being a traffic cop for a while. While on the job directing traffic he is threatened by the crime boss he recently put away and the threats affect his girlfriend when she is attacked.

Jackie decides to quit when his boss doesn?t understand that beating up the 10 or so bad guys who had a go at his girlfriend. So he arranges a Bali holiday to win back the girlfriend?s affections but the cops drag him off the plane to help them sort out a blackmail case. She decides to leave Jackie when he misses the take-off but the bad guys don?t know that and kidnap her as part of getting back at Jackie.

Jackie?s alternative thought processes lead him to the man selling dynamite to the blackmailers. But that doesn?t help as he finds out his girlfriend is in their grasp and that they want him to pick up the ransom. He gets taken too and after a bout to torture eventually agrees to do it. But as we probably knew from the start, he then turns the tables on the bad guys and rescues the girl.

There is a heap of martial arts in the movie and a plausible if weak storyline. I like Jackie in his later stuff when there is more humour involved but this is one of his earlier ones where it almost done on the straight an narrow. I doubt I will get the DVD out again but maybe that says more about my appetite for martial arts movies than anything. Nice try Jackie but not for this little black duck, even with the usual run of outtakes at the end of the movie.

THE EXTRAS

There are some special features added to the disk but the first one is a repeat of the outtakes that finish the movie. The rest is made up of previews of other material on offer from the Hong Kong Legends group. It does have Bruce Lee in it for the real martial arts types and there a series of other movies if you like this stuff.

CONCLUSION

Jackie Chan uses his martial arts skills to sort out the bad guys who want to make their money through blackmail. But when they kidnap Jackie?s girlfriend they bite off more than they can chew and Jackie sorts it all out.
