This 4 part series comes from the ABC via the UK’s ITV. It is one of those gritty English crime drama series. Starring Ray Winstone (Cold Mountain, Sexy Beast and King Arthur) as Vincent Gallagher and Suranne Jones (Coronation Street) as Beth. Vincent is a former policeman turned Private Investigator, who spends way too much time involved in his work at the expense of his marriage. His wife has left him and Vincents life is nothing short of a mess as he mixes investigations with his life and pries into the new relationship his wife has. Somehow through this he has a sharp enough mind to keep his team of investigators together, with Beth the in control cool headed character and the eager young assistant Robert.

Some of this is all a little too cliched for me, but none the less there is good investigative crime drama. Put aside the melodramatics and you have a good series. I didn’t see this on the ABC, but it was certainly well worth watching on DVD.

This is the first series on offer and I am happy to say a second series on the way. I am not sure this would become a ‘must watch’, but it certainly isn’t a bad watch. Believe me this is a high rating for me, as I am not much for crime dramas and way over the offerings from the US. This makes a refreshing change. 3 out of 5.
